A meta-analysis of dry matter intake in Nellore and Zebu-crosses cattle R. Bras. Zootec.
Azevêdo,José Augusto Gomes; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Pina,Douglas dos Santos; Chizzotti,Mario Luiz; Valadares,Rilene Ferreira Diniz.
The study was carried out to develop and to evaluate new equations to predict dry matter intake (DMI) of Nellore and Zebu-crosses cattle using meta-analysis procedure. The data used to estimate the parameters were collected from independent performance experiments using growing and fattening Nellore and Zebu-crosses cattle, and they were compiled from 561 experimental units. Before proposing an equation to predict DMI, it was observed that the genetic group was a source of statisticaly significant variation. Therefore, equations to predict dry matter intake in the Zebu-Crosses and Nellore cattle were independently developed. The regression equations for Zebu-crosses cattle were: DMI = -2.6098 + 0.08844BW0.75 + 4.4672ADG - 1.3579ADG2 and DMI = -1.0094 +...

Alkanes as markers in nutritional studies with wild ruminant and non-ruminant animals Scientia Agricola
Oliveira,Dimas Estrasulas de; Silva,Sila Carneiro da.
Knowledge of information relative to the digestibility, intake and botanical and morphological composition of the diet is important in nutritional studies, since it provides the basis for understanding aspects related to the ingestive behavior and selectivity of animals. N-alkanes have been used successfully as markers in studies with many species of animals, particularly domesticated ruminants, most of the times as replacements for conventional markers as chromium oxide for example. However, for wild ruminants and non-ruminant animals information on this technique is still scarce and, as a consequence, its potential for use unknown. This review reports the use of this technique in studies of feed digestibility, intake and diet composition with wild...

The effect of partial and total substitution of soybean meal crude protein (SBM) by canola meal (CM) on live weight (LW), daily weight gain (DWG), daily feed intake (DFI) and feed conversion (FC) in female rabbits are provided. Rabbits were evaluated from weaning period (43 days of age) to adult life when they are capable of reproduction (150 days of age). Forty-eight White New Zealand females were used and distributed in four treatments. SBM was substituted at 00%, 33%, 66% and 100% levels by CM. The partial or total substitution of SBM by CM did not change (P > 0.05) the LW after 70 days old. Dunnett’s test showed that, independently of substitution level, FC of animals fed on meal with 33% SBM substitution by CM from age 43 to 90 days and 43 to 150...
